Flights out for 41 people leaving Ukraine

Disaster reliefArranged directly2022Funded by John Margerison
What was given

Paid for flights for 41 people leaving Ukraine in 2022.

Direct support, person to person, not a donation to a charity. They crossed the border overland, and John Margerison paid for the flights that carried them onward.

Ukrainian airspace closed to civil aviation on 24 February 2022. Families crossed into Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary or Slovakia and flew from there. Most of them settled in Australia.

There is no organisation to name here, no registration number to check and no overhead to account for. Forty-one people needed to be somewhere else, and the fares were paid.

Two years later one of them wrote to say that her partner and her son were settled, and that the boy was growing up having never heard a gunshot or a bomb.

Photography to be supplied.

Placeholder imagery was deliberately not seeded.
